Declaration of Francis P. McManamon, Ph.D.
I, Francis P. McManamon declare as follows:
1. I am Chief Archeologist of the National Park Service and the
Departmental Consulting Archeologist for the U. S. Department
of the Interior. My duties and responsibilities in this capacity
are as set forth in my declaration filed with this court on April
1, 2000. This declaration is being submitted in support of the
Federal Defendants' filing regarding the fourth monthly progress
report on the completion of DNA analysis for the Kennewick human
remains.
2. DNA testing and analysis of bone samples taken from the Kennewick
human remains is continuing at the University of California-Davis,
University of Michigan, and Yale University DNA laboratories.
To date, none of the laboratories has successfully reported the
extraction and amplification of DNA from these bones samples.
All three of the laboratories will continue their efforts to
extract and amplify DNA using a variety of protocols. I anticipate
that by September 1, 2000, the laboratories will either have
completed the DNA analysis or have determined that testing is
not viable.
I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true
and correct.
