v.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, et al., Defendants

Federal Defendants' May 2000 DNA Analysis Progress Report

Pursuant to the Federal Defendants' Work Plan for Completing the DNA Analysis ("Work Plan"), submitted in accordance with the Court's Order of March 8, 2000, the federal defendants hereby provide their first monthly progress report regarding completion of the DNA analysis. (See Plan for Conducting DNA Investigation of the Kennewick Remains, filed April 10, 2000). As indicated in the Work Plan, a team of scientists met at the Burke Museum between April 24-28 to perform further physical anthropological analysis with a focus on taphonomy and micro-sampling for the purpose of selecting appropriate bone samples from which to obtain viable DNA for analysis. The full details of the physical anthropological analysis and microsampling are set forth in the attached declaration of Dr. Francis McManamon. See Declaration of Dr. Francis McManamon, May 1, 2000.

Dated this 1st day of May, 2000

Respectfully submitted,

Lois J. Schiffer
