Scientists file responses to appeals

On Wednesday, May 21, 2003, attorneys for the scientists filed two briefs with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The briefs respond to separate appeals filed by the Department of Justice and the Joint Tribal Coalition. Amici (friends of the court) briefs in support of the scientists are due in seven days. We will post these briefs as soon as they are available.

Final responses by the Department of Justice and the Coaltion are due in 15 days.

A panel of three judges from the Ninth Circuit will review the arguments and may hold an oral hearing before issuing an opinion. This process may take two years or more.
